Liquid-liquid Filter Coalescer
The liquid-liquid Filter coalescers are used for
removing solids & free (emulsified) water from hydrocarbon fluids consist
of diesel, jet fuel & light lubricating oils.
Separation steps by filter coalescer
A. Filtration
Pre-filter for
minimize solids in the coalescer influent that can plug the coalescer, reducing
the overall life and efficiency.
B. Coalescence
The small droplets
of water are intercepted by coalescer fibers. As the number of droplets
collected increases they combine together into large drops.
C. Separation
Separation of the
large droplets of water from the continuous phase.

Surfactants will significantly lower IFT with a
corresponding decrease in coalescing performance. Surfactants can occur
naturally (diesel fuel) or they can be intentionally added as corrosion
inhibitors (pipelines, lube and hydraulic oils) and detergent dispersants
(automotive gasoline).

Temperature
High temperature will increase the amount of dissolved
water. It will decrease the interfacial tension, too
